Behind the doors of the Clock Tower, above the familiar dining room of Carina’s, a different world is waiting.
Follow the staircase upward and the surroundings begin to change. The light becomes warmer. Conversation slows. Leather seating, vintage-inspired rugs, chandeliers and glowing whiskey shelves transform the second floor into a hidden retreat unlike anything else in the Mat-Su Valley.
This is Carina’s Lounge, which appears to be the first and only dedicated whiskey lounge in the Mat-Su Valley. While other local restaurants and bars serve whiskey, this hidden upstairs destination places it at the center of the experience, with an international collection, guided tasting flights and hand-carved clear ice.
Created for unhurried evenings and memorable conversations, the lounge invites guests to settle in, discover a remarkable whiskey and stay awhile. It is refined without being intimidating, intimate without feeling exclusive and designed to make every visit feel like the discovery of a well-kept secret.
Behind the bar is a carefully assembled collection of nearly 50 whiskeys from around the world. Scotland, Ireland, Japan, India, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States are all represented. Recognizable favorites share the shelves with bottles many guests may never have encountered before.
Guests do not need to be whiskey experts to enjoy the experience. Three-whiskey tasting flights offer an approachable way to explore the influence of different countries, grains, traditions and barrels. Each flight tells a story and turns an ordinary drink into a journey through the world of whiskey.
The smallest details are given special attention. Signature pours can be served over directionally frozen, hand-carved clear ice, each piece prepared as part of the presentation rather than treated as an afterthought. From the glassware and lighting to the pace of service, the entire room is designed to make an evening feel extraordinary.
Carina’s Lounge can begin the night, complete it or become the destination itself. Guests can enjoy a whiskey upstairs before dinner, return after their meal or spend the evening sharing a flight with friends in one of the lounge’s comfortable conversation areas.
The lounge is open upstairs Friday and Saturday evenings at Carina’s at the Clock Tower, 290 N. Yenlo St., Wasilla.
