A Vehicle with Purpose: ConocoPhillips Alaska Helps Deliver Hope

Contributed by Marlene Munsell

Thanks to the generous support of ConocoPhillips Alaska, Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. (WASI) was able to purchase a dedicated Meals on Wheels delivery vehicle that has become an essential part of serving seniors throughout the Mat-Su Valley, from Wasilla to Willow and surrounding communities.

Each weekday, Aaron Bremmer begins his day at WASI at 8:00 a.m., loading the vehicle with nutritious meals prepared for seniors who depend on this vital service. From there, he begins a route that stretches across miles of Alaska roads, averaging 170 miles each day as he delivers approximately 60 meals to homebound seniors throughout the Valley.

For these seniors, the arrival of the Meals on Wheels vehicle means much more than a hot meal. It represents a familiar and friendly face, a wellness check, and the reassurance that someone cares. Many recipients look forward to Aaron’s visit as the highlight of their day, knowing they can count on a nutritious meal, a brief conversation, and a meaningful connection to the community.
After completing his long route, Aaron returns to the WASI center around 3:00 p.m., having spent the day ensuring seniors receive the support they need to remain healthy and independent in their homes.

The new vehicle has improved the reliability and efficiency of deliveries, allowing WASI to safely navigate long distances, changing weather conditions, and rural roads while ensuring meals arrive fresh and on time. With Aaron traveling 170 miles each day, dependable transportation is critical to maintaining uninterrupted service for seniors who may otherwise face barriers to accessing nutritious meals. ConocoPhillips Alaska’s investment is helping seniors remain healthy, nourished, and connected. This vehicle is more than transportation—it is a lifeline that carries meals, compassion, and hope across the Mat-Su Valley.

Every mile driven and every meal delivered is a reminder that strong community partnerships make a lasting difference in the lives of older adults.
